Freight Details

Freight Costs

Freight Costs are based on several factors such as the dimensions of the pallet being shipped, the total weight, and the destination.  The location type (commercial or residential) and the inclusion of Freight Upgrades also impact the final cost. The cost per pound for shipping decreases with larger orders, making it more economical compared to shipping small or individual parts, which can incur higher costs.

To obtain a precise cost estimate, we will need to gather specific information about your shipping needs, for this reason we recommend you request a freight quote.

Freight Upgrades

Choosing freight upgrades can significantly increase the overall cost due to additional fees. We recommend avoiding these upgrades whenever possible. Many of our smaller dealers opt to have their orders shipped to the nearest freight hub, where they can conveniently pick them up. Furthermore, dealers will then have the option for the order to be easily loaded into a van or trailer using a forklift. Shipments to larger dealers who have a commercial site, with a forklift, will avoid the necessity of these additional fright upgrade fees.

As a new dealer, we kindly ask you to complete our Freight Detail Form by clicking this link here. This form assists our agents in determining a more precise freight requirements tailored to your specific needs. Please be aware that any upgrades not discussed with Sherwood Shelving before your order is shipped may result in separate billing for the associated additional charges.

These potential upgrades include:

Private Residence / Limited Access Delivery

This option is designed for locations where the driver cannot access a loading dock or forklift for unloading. It covers deliveries to private residences or places with limited access such as farms, ranches, dormitories, churches, or schools. Areas deemed residential will be treated as private residences.

Tailgate Delivery

If you require the driver to bring the items to the tailgate, which can be lowered to ground level for unloading, this option is suitable. It’s essential to be available to receive the items from the tailgate. Please note that the maximum weight for this service is 2,000 lbs per pallet.

Inside Delivery

In situations where there is no available loading dock or forklift at the delivery site, inside delivery can be requested for most freight shipments. This entails the driver carrying the shipment through the threshold of the delivery location. Keep in mind that the delivery location must either be on the ground floor or have a freight elevator.

Appointment Delivery

If you need a scheduled appointment for the receiver to accept the delivery, you can opt for Appointment Delivery. This involves specifying a time and date on the Bill of Lading (BOL) or through other means. You must provide Appointment Details and Special Instructions before shipping, notifying Sherwood Shelving in advance.

FOB Origin

FOB stands for “Free On Board.” It’s a shipping term that indicates the point at which the seller is considered to have fulfilled their obligations, and the buyer assumes responsibility for the goods. There are two common variations:

  1. FOB Origin: The seller fulfills their responsibility when the goods are loaded onto the transport (e.g., truck) at the seller’s location. The buyer assumes responsibility for the goods and the shipping costs from that point onward.
  2. FOB Destination: The seller is responsible for the goods until they reach the buyer’s specified destination. The seller covers the shipping costs, and the buyer takes over responsibility upon arrival.

At Sherwood Shelving, our default shipping terms are FOB Origin, unless there are specific written agreements stating otherwise. Notably, owing to our advantageous volume discounts with Freight Partners, we extend the option for Dealers to have shipments billed to our account. In this case, the corresponding charges are transparently passed on to the Dealer. We also handle all brokerage processes for shipments into the United States, relieving you of another concern.

This arrangement allows for streamlined transactions and optimal cost efficiency.

Freight Partners

Sherwood Shelving has established partnerships with leading freight companies in Canada and the United States to ensure dealers receive optimal shipping rates and timely, damage-free deliveries. While unforeseen circumstances such as weather, accidents, or environmental conditions may occasionally affect estimated arrival dates, our freight partners are committed to ensuring the safe and punctual delivery of shipments.

One-Way Crate

We rigorously tested our palletizing, packing, and protection methods to ensure the resilience of your orders during harsh travel conditions. Our simulations showed that our One-Way Crate and packaging exceed expectations in terms of overall load strength. Our One-Way Crate is the default method of shipping.

Upon receipt of these One-Way Crates, featuring both small and large sizes as illustrated in the accompanying images, you’ll notice a double band of strapping applied to each end, as depicted in the small One-Way Crate image below. In the rare event that this strapping is compromised during freight delivery, please ensure that the crate’s contents remain undamaged and untampered. Any discrepancies should be promptly noted on the waybill before accepting the order. Please also notify Sherwood Shelving that the banding has been broken during shipping, which will help us to investigate the situation.

For ease of handling, these crates are designed to be lifted from either end using a forklift or pallet jack. While a regular pallet jack is suitable, be mindful that, depending on the crate’s weight, the opposite end may drag on the floor, making it somewhat challenging to move. For optimal maneuverability, we recommend using the long 72” style pallet jack, which provides better support for the longer crate.

Our One-Way Crates are specifically crafted to accommodate full 8ft length gables (95.236” or 2419mm) with a maximum product height of 26-1/4”. Should your product exceed these dimensions, a custom crate will be required, and additional surcharges will apply.

To assist in unloading the crate we suggest using a block under one side of the crate to provide a slight angle. Even a block 1-1/2” thick will usually suffice and allow the crate to be unloaded from the elevated side working towards the opposite side. Following this procedure will help prevent the shelving from tipping over inside the crate as the product is removed.

The One-Way Crate can be dismantled and disposed of. Alternatively, we recommend listing them on a sales platform such as Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. You can choose to give them away for free or sell them.

Receiving Your Product

Inspect Packaging

Upon receipt of your products, it is imperative that you visually check the packaging for damage as this might indicate Possible Concealed Damage. If the metal straps have been cut or tampered with, please indicate this on the Waybill and inform our office. If you determine that any damage has penetrated the protective packaging, you need to write on the Bill of Lading, “Possible Concealed Damage” before accepting the shipment. Failure to complete this task will result in the inability to submit a freight claim.

Inspect Contents

The Dealer is required to thoroughly examine the received order for any shortages, defects, or nonconformities. In the event of any identified defects or nonconformities, kindly provide accompanying digital images via email within 5 days of product receipt. Subsequently, replacement parts will be dispatched either with your next order or at the earliest possible time.
