Pull-Out Drawers & Hinge Placement

Pull-out drawers are ideal for pantries, offering ample space for taller items when designed with generous spacing. Regular drawers with faces can achieve this look effectively. However, designing pull-out drawers behind doors requires careful consideration to ensure functionality.

While design software permits drawers behind doors, the Sherwood Shelving Online Ordering (OLO) platform imports these with standard drawer box widths. To accommodate doors, include a 1” hinge spacer on the hinge side of the drawer box to clear the door. Drawers must also be vertically positioned to avoid door hinges, as the hinge spacer alone won’t suffice. This may lead to uneven drawer spacing, so communicate this to customers upfront. Additionally, manually adjust the drawer width in OLO, reducing it by 1” or 2” based on the number of hinge spacers used, to ensure a proper fit.

Please refer to the Hinge Placement Chart so pull-out drawers can be adjusted to clear the hinges.
